Beyond Our Imagination

“You shall not make idols for yourselves or erect an image or pillar, and you shall not set up a figured stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the LORD your God” (Leviticus 26:1, ESV).

We also read in Exodus 20:4-6:

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

And in Romans 1, we read:

“For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things” (vv. 21-23).

Today, though we don’t usually make a carved image to worship, we could also become futile in our thinking and try to carve an “image” of God that we want in our mind!

But God attracts. He is Glorious than any human mind that we could think or imagine! Nothing could represent Him. And we need to honor and worship Him for what He reveals Himself in His Word.
