Making The Person Clean

“But if the spot remains in one place and does not spread, it is the scar of the boil, and the priest shall pronounce him clean… But if the spot remains in one place and does not spread in the skin, but has faded, it is a swelling from the burn, and the priest shall pronounce him clean, for it is the scar of the burn… And on the seventh day the priest shall examine the itch, and if the itch has not spread in the skin and it appears to be no deeper than the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean. And he shall wash his clothes and be clean” (Leviticus 13:23, 28, 34, ESV).

We could observe in these verses that upon the examination of the priest, he could pronounce the person clean. But God could pronounce us clean not only from our sickness. Remember the reaction of Peter when he saw the vision of “all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air” (Acts 10:12). And after he was instructed to eat, he replied:

“By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean” (v. 14).

Notice verse 15, “And the voice came to him again a second time, ‘What God has made clean, do not call common.'”

And so, Peter was able to say in verse 28:

“You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or to visit anyone of another nation, but God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean.”

God attracts. He makes a person clean. As Peter explained in verses 34-35:

“Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.”

We read further in verse 43, “… everyone (whether Jew or non-Jew) who believes in him (Christ) receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
